Let us know about a wonderful festival in Odisha. A state near the eastern coast of India. There, in the summer season, a festival observes which is popularly known as “Pana Sankranti” or “Maha Bishuba Sankranti”; odias often call it the beginning of their new year.

The best part of this festival is that people of every house worship the holy plant of Tulsi. The ritual to observe the festival is started by hanging a small mud pot above the Tulsi plant with the help of an especially prepared thread of dry skinny part of the banana tree. The pot has a small hole at its bottom and a cover on its top. During the whole summer season, for about a month, all of the Odias worship the Tulsi plant by filling water in that mud pot hanging over the plant every day. The water-filled in the pot drip down through that small hole on the Tulsi tree.

Our ancestors foresighted very well that their future generations would be kind of destroyers. To save the “Mother Medicine of Nature”, from the hot climatic condition of summer, they thought this genius idea to add to the ritual of this festival.

These days we as a human do not think very much about nature and it’s pre-service. We are continuously destroying mother nature for our selfish needs and sophisticated satisfaction. In this pandemic, we discovered the value of this herb tulsi. It may be a call of Almighty God to make us realized the importance of every natural products and by-products in our life. Learning from the scenario, we should take an initiative to protect our natural resources. It may be possible when we mix up the formula of “holistic cultural science” like that of “Maha Bishuba Sankranti”.

Because where there is Dharma, there is fear. Where there is fear, there is respect. And where there is respect, there is care.
